Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

All academies in the Diocese of Coventry Multi Academy Trust are committed to ensuring equality throughout the school communities.

Our vision as a Church of England primary school, deeply rooted in a strong Christian tradition, is to develop happy, young people with enquiring minds, a spirit of curiosity, respect for themselves, others and the environment so that they will have the skills, resilience and adaptability to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Our Commitment to equality is that:

  • All learners are of equal value
  • We recognise and respect difference
  • We foster positive attitudes and relationships, and a shared sense of cohesion and belonging
  • We observe good equalities practice in staff recruitment, retention and development
  • We aim to reduce and remove inequalities and barriers that already exist
  • Society as a whole should benefit.

St Nicolas Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Objectives

From our findings we have decided on the following objectives, these will be regularly reviewed and we will continue to audit using a variety of approaches.

Equality/Equity

To support all groups of pupils to achieve their potential

We will ensure this by:

  • Monitoring and analysing pupil achievement by ethnicity, gender, special educational need or disability and socio-economic group
  • Acting on any trends or patterns identified in the data that require additional support for pupils
  • Promoting equality of opportunity in all activities including enrichment e.g. music lessons, trips and after school clubs

Diversity

To ensure our curriculum reflects the rich diversities of the world we live in

We will ensure this by:

  • Delivering a broad and balanced curriculum that provides exposure to the range of protected characteristics
  • Regularly reviewing and monitoring the curriculum to ensure that topics and resources are up to date and in line with current legislation
  • Planning for all pupils to access this diverse curriculum at an age axppropriate level

Inclusion

To ensure all pupils feel safe and included in our school community

We will ensure this by:

  • Promoting our core values of Respect, Love, Peace, Service, Hope, Thankfulness and Perseverance
  • Educating pupils on who to talk to when they don’t feel safe and knowing their feelings are valued
  • Training all staff with the appropriate knowledge of the importance of inclusion and how to recognise potential areas of concern
