Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium & Free School Meals

Pupil Premium is additional funding for those pupils who traditionally do less well in the school system. The purpose of this funding is to increase the academic achievement in these groups of pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.

This school receives PP Funding for the following:

  • Children from low income families who are known to be eligible for free school meals or who have claimed free school meals in the last 6 years

  • Children who have been looked after continuously for more than 6 months

  • Children whose parents currently serve in the armed forces.

Rationale

The key priority for St Nicolas C of E Academy pupils is to use the funding to narrow the disadvantage gap by addressing inequalities and raising the attainment of these pupils. We believe that the most effective way to improve pupil outcomes is through high quality, specialist teaching and targeted support to meet individual pupil’s needs. This is achieved by:

  • Improving standards, progress and achievement to expected levels based on agreed performance indicators
  • Developing and enhancing the quality of teaching and learning through appropriate CPD for teachers and support staff

  • Targeted support for students to ensure they make expected progress in line with other students of similar ability
