Personal Development Intent Statement

At St Nicolas C of E Academy, our Personal Development curriculum is underpinned by our school vision and value: "Together We Flourish, Growing with God." Rooted in our Christian ethos, we are committed to nurturing confident, compassionate and responsible individuals who are equipped to thrive in modern Britain and contribute positively to an increasingly diverse world.

We believe that education extends far beyond academic success. Our Personal Development curriculum is bespoke and carefully contextualised to meet the needs of our pupils, families and local community. Through a progressive programme of learning and enrichment opportunities, we respond to the unique strengths, experiences and challenges of our school community, ensuring that every child develops the knowledge, skills, character and resilience needed to flourish both now and in the future.

Our curriculum encompasses a broad range of carefully planned themes that support pupils' personal, social, emotional and physical development, including:

Together, these strands help children to develop emotional literacy, self-awareness, resilience, healthy relationships and an understanding of their rights and responsibilities within society.

At the heart of our curriculum is a commitment to inclusion, belonging and respect. Through initiatives such as No Outsiders and our Christian values, pupils learn that every person is unique, valued and loved. They develop an appreciation of diversity and gain a deep understanding of the importance of equality, acceptance and mutual respect. We want every child to know that they belong and that they have a responsibility to ensure others feel that they belong too.

We place great importance on pupil voice and leadership. Through a wide range of student ambassador roles, pupils are empowered to contribute meaningfully to school life, represent the views of their peers and lead positive change. These opportunities develop confidence, responsibility, communication skills and a sense of service, enabling children to become active citizens and role models within our school and beyond.

Through our Thrive approach and restorative practices, we foster a culture of empathy, reflection and positive relationships. Pupils are supported to understand themselves and others, resolve conflict respectfully and develop the emotional resilience to face challenges with confidence and compassion.

Our Personal Development curriculum aims to inspire pupils to become the changemakers of the future. We want them to leave St Nicolas C of E Academy as confident, courageous and caring individuals who embrace diversity, champion inclusion and use their voice to make a positive difference in the world. Guided by our vision of "Together We Flourish, Growing with God," pupils learn that by working together, showing kindness and living out their values, they can contribute to a more just, respectful and inclusive society.

Through our Personal Development curriculum, we encourage every child to recognise their unique gifts, develop their character and let their light shine, so that together we flourish and grow with God.
