Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Willow and Palm

Curriculum Intent

At St Nicolas Academy we are committed to providing a secure and happy environment for our children to learn and play. We provide enhancement opportunities to engage learning and believe that children’s first experiences of school should be happy and positive, enabling them to develop a lifelong love of learning.

At St Nicolas Academy we believe that all children deserve an education rich in wonder and memorable experiences that allows children's natural creativity and curiosity to flourish, alongside the purposeful acquisition of skills and knowledge in order that they are equipped for what comes next.

Our aim is to encourage all children to become confident individuals who are able to lead safe, healthy and fulfilling lives. We aim to build the foundations that allow our children to become responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society.

We believe that an education that does all of this gives children the best chance to become well-rounded, happy individuals, ready to succeed in an ever-changing world.

“The goal of early childhood education should be to activate the child’s own natural desire to learn.”

Maria Montessori

All Creatures Great and Small

This half term we are exploring animals, our environment and how we can care for them.  We will be finding out all about the role of a Vet, discussing which animals make suitable pets and why and, learning all about farms and the animals that we might find there.  We will be thinking carefully about where our food comes from and the importance of eating a healthy diet.  To help us understand this we will be visiting Higham Lane Allotments and planting some healthy vegetables that we will eventually be able to eat! We will be looking closely at the signs of Spring and helping to take care of our environment by collecting litter and learning about recycling. In RE we will be exploring the meaning of Lent and the Easter Story.
