School Parliament & Eco Council

Here at St. Nicolas, we believe it is very important for ALL children to have a voice and feel as though their views and opinions count.

School Parliament

Our School Parliament is elected by the children each year in September.  Each class elects two pupils to be their representative.  Children who want to be councillors for their class make posters and give speeches about why they want to be a councillor and how they will represent their class, and then the children have a vote!

Each councillor has to ensure that the views of all of the children in their class are heard. They work hard to find ways of collecting the ideas and suggestions of the rest of the school by having:

  • class votes
  • a notebook to record the views of others
  • suggestion boxes

The school parliament meet at least once every term to talk about any issues that have been raised by the children in our class.

If you have any ideas about how we can make St Nicolas a better place, then speak to your class councillor today!

Eco Council

Furthermore, each class has nominated a pupil to be part of the Eco Council for the school. Giving them the opportunity to make our school and community a more eco-friendly environment.

The Eco Council meet reguarly and discusses important environmental issues and how we can help our planet to flourish.

Below is a rap they created to help remember the important issues:

St Nics Eco Rap

Put your litter in the bin

Recycle waste from paper to tin

Take care of wildlife and give them a home

So they will thrive and are free to roam

Turn off the taps it’s a waste of water

It really helps so tell your friend, neighbour and daughter.

Look after our planet- you know it’s cool

Together we will flourish as an Eco School
